Thesis topic outline
Getting Started: Thesis Topic Outline
Purpose
To find a topic and partner to work with during the course.Writing an abstract.
Finding a topic and a partner for the course
If you already have got your real final thesis project, you can skip this step.
If not (which is the common case), you can work during the course with a hypothetical thesis topic. You might choose any announced thesis topic or invent your own one. More information on topic selection will be given in the first lecture.
All work in the course will be conducted in pairs. You will need to find a partner to work with during the course, and we temporarily set up a match-making spreadsheet for you on Lisam, where you can sign up as a single student seeking a partner for the course. When you have found someone to work with and both agreed, you can remove your names from the spreadsheet.
Submitting thesis topic outlines
After you have found a topic and a partner to work with, you will write your first lines of text towards what finally will become an extended thesis project plan.
The thesis topic outline should contain:
Your and your partner's names and LiU-id:s
A descriptive title of your proposed thesis
An abstract containing an initial problem description and a possible initial approach to address the problem.
A list of keywords
One or several applicable topic / method areas (in decreasing order of relevance)
Submission
Upload your outline (PDF, Word or plain text) with a file name including your LiU-IDs to the Thesis topic outlines folder on LISAM in the first week of the course, at the latest Thursday, 7 November 2024.
The thesis topic outline will be used to assign you to thematic seminar groups with students doing similar theses. The group assignment will be announced early on Monday, 11 November 2024.
NB this is your registration for the seminar work in the course. We will then sign you up in webreg after the groups have been formed.
