Examination

Mandatory Attendance

You are expected to be present in Linköping during the semester (see LiTH term dates).

  • Supervision sessions. Mandatory in-person attendance, or in exceptional cases active attendance via Zoom. Supervision may also be held entirely via Zoom and campus rooms cancelled as long as the supervisor considers it working well with the group.
  • Sprint demonstrations. Mandatory in-person attendance.
  • Ethics seminar. Mandatory in-person attendance.
  • During workshops, attendance is not taken by course management but all students are expected to participate in person, or the group agrees to find another time that works better.

You may miss two supervision sessions or ethics seminars without valid reasons (you only need to notify the examiner in advance if you have a valid reason for absence during these occasions). The group itself provides catch-up material for the absent member, and the group is responsible for ensuring that sufficient members participate in person.

Active attendance via Zoom

  • The participant uses a video camera; other participants at the course occasion must be able to see the image.
  • Participants use a microphone and all participants can hear the person.
  • There is a camera in the room on campus.
  • There is a microphone in the room that picks up sound from all participants (a conference unit or similar is needed; a laptop microphone is not acceptable).

Exceptions

Valid reasons for absence include illness, medical appointments that cannot be moved, funerals, or similar. Some of the university's own activities may also be valid reasons for attending via Zoom instead of in person (LiU Elite Sports).

If you have a valid reason for absence, notify the supervisor (for supervision sessions) or the examiner as soon as possible to determine whether participation via Zoom or a make-up session is possible; note that you need to document your exception. Note that participation via Zoom is not possible for the opposition, presentation, and observation sessions in sprint 4, as this is not permitted for corresponding elements of degree project work.

Examples of reasons that are not accepted as valid absence include but are not limited to:

  • Private travel (travel arranged by student associations is also private travel)
  • Work
  • Job interview
  • Vacation / public holidays
  • Exam/element in another course (check the block schedule)
  • Student association events

Sometimes it is possible to reschedule so that your group presents at a time that avoids the scheduling conflict you have. Note however that this usually involves 2 groups = 16 students who need to find a time that works for all students, and you therefore need to avoid planning activities on days with mandatory course occasions.
