Our group
The group on Sports Analytics was started at the end of 2017. We are researchers at Linköping University with a common interest in various aspects of Sports Analytics.Our field
Sports analytics deals with using data related to sports events to obtain insights about the sport and its surroundings. In our group we interpret this broadly. The insights can relate to such things as player and team performance, strategies, training, injuries, and rules of the game.
Learning about Sports Analytics
- Since 2019 we have held a yearly course in Sports Analytics (VT2).
- NEWS: We start a sports analytics academy where students at Linköping University can work on projects and participate in competitions.

- Articles about the LINHAC conference series (since 2022): International Ice Hockey Analytics Conference
- LiU (2026) published a note on the hosting of the RF/SOK/SPK expert network on elite sports technology.
- Issue 2022/6 of the Swedish sports science magazine "Idrott och Kunskap" features an article on sports analytics based on interviews with Patrick Lambrix (ice hockey), Anton Kalén (golf), David Sumpter (football) and Daniel Svensson (history).
- Universitetsläraren (2020) published a short article (in Swedish) on our sports analytics work based on an interview with Patrick Lambrix.
- LiU magasin (2019) published an article (in Swedish) on our sports analytics work based on an interview with Patrick Lambrix and Niklas Carlsson. Swedish and English versions were published on the LiU web.
- Articles about our project on visualization of ice hockey data in cooperation with Linköping Hockey Club (LHC) were posted (2019) on LHC's web page and hockeysverige.se.
