TDDE32 Professionalism in Computer Science

Course information

Seminar 3: Being a computer scientist in a changing society: flipping the coin?

What can a computer scientist do about these societal challenges? While there is clearly potential for IT solutions to address societal challenges, there are potential risks too. How can computer scientists maximise the benefits and minimise the risks? Is it really your job to worry about these issues?

Preparations

For this seminar, you will need to prepare by reading three scientific papers, as in, papers written by researchers. These papers will be used later in the workshop as well. In all cases, the papers make use of peer-reviewed material to support claims. One of the publications is an essay, published as a chapter in a collection of texts by researchers. The two others are texts published in the scientific journal Nature.

Hand-in

Note that the essay is submitted in the Collaborative Workspace in LISAM for your group, not the Submissions page.

Write the first two sections of your final essay, and provide commentary on each others' work based on the grading criteria presented in the course.

Provide feedback to each others' papers based on the grading criteria given. Explan how you justify your feedback, and compare the examples given.
