Associate professor in Cognitive Science
My PhD thesis focused on interaction design for social situations of use, at the intersection of design, human-computer interaction (HCI) and computer-supported cooperative work (CSCW). Later, my research has dealt with design, cognition and IT-development. Different issues of thinking, language and communication has been central to my work. The topic of user experience, use-quality and experiential qualities is, in my research, connected to socio-cultural theories of mediated action (eg. activity theory and distributed cognition), and I find theoretical topics in interaction and service design intriguing, especially in relation to the practice of design. As part of researching design practice I have tried to identify best practices and describe them in terms of design methods. Notably, I have worked on methods like personas, interaction and service walkthroughs, improvised roleplaying, design patterns, competitive analysis, genre analysis, use-quality analysis, bodystorming, and prototyping. Related to the practice of design is also the field of design education, which also is one of areas of interest.
