Course plan

No of lectures 5

The goal with the course is that the students shall be able to evaluate the different data sources that are available when designing and implementing a spatial or geographic information system. They shall further be able to chose relevant methods for indexing, storing and sharing the data as well as select suitable methods for analysis and mediation of the result. ICT - Information and Communication Technologies are essential for several steps in the work with spatial information. The understanding of those technologies and their implementation shall also be demonstrated during the course.

Recommended for

PhD (or Master students) with an interest for spatial/geographical information systems, sensors for spatial information and sensor data fusion as well as computation and application of such data in a wide range of disciplines besides computer science.

The course was last given

2009

Goals

The knowledge and skills shall be demonstrated through a test of the lexical knowledge, solving practical tasks and presenting a written work that proofs that the student is able to identify a problem and suggest a solution for solving this with help of GIS and ICT /or presenting evidence why it is not suitable.

Prerequisites

Master or PhD level with reasonable skills in computation ans some experience in writing an individual report

Organization

The course consist of lectures, exercises and seminars.

Contents

Data capture, different sensors for spatial data and for localisation of data. GPS and other methods for localision. Data bases and representation of spatially distributed data. Sensor fusion and sensor-data fusion. Models and algorithms for analysis of spatial data and information. Cooperative work and sharing data. GIS and ICT for descision support.
