On-demand updating of data in a reconfigurable real-time database system

COMET is a configurable database platform under constant development. Currently COMET has a library of aspects and components that enable making various configurations of the database to fit the underlying application needs, e.g., if an application with which the database is to be used needs quality of service (QoS) support, then QoS-related components and aspects from the library can be used to configure COMET to support QoS guarantees. COMET components are built using C programming language, while aspect are developed and weaved into components using AspectC++.

On-demand updating of data makes it possible to do intelligent decisions on which data items to refresh. By using the notion of similarity it is possible to skip calculations giving a better utilization of the CPU resource.

The goal of this project is to extend the COMET component and aspect library with the set of components and/or aspects that enable efficient and configurable on-demand updating of data items in a database system. This, in turn, implies merging the results achieved in two different research and implementation efforts: COMET database platform with an on-demand updating of data items.
This merger would give COMET configurations that can be efficiently configured to deal with maintaining data freshness.

This project is jointly supervised by Aleksandra Tesanovic and Thomas Gustafsson, and examined by Jörgen Hansson.
