A configurable database platform for the engine control

COMET is a configurable database platform under constant development. Currently COMET has a library of aspects and components that enable making various configurations of the database to fit the underlying application needs, e.g., if an application with which the database is to be used needs quality of service (QoS) support, then QoS-related components and aspects from the library can be used to configure COMET to support QoS guarantees. COMET components are built using C programming language, while aspect are developed and weaved into components using AspectC++.

An electronic engine control unit (EECU) is used to control an engine in the car such that the fuel consumption and pollutions are low, and the engine is not knocking. The software in the EECU is complex and many data items are used. In order to structure the storage of data, making the software easier to maintain, a database system can be used. We have developed a database prototype and used it on a subset of data in the EECU software. This database prototype is written in C and is hard to configure for different settings. We are, thus, interested in having a more configurable database system, and the COMET platform might help us.

So far COMET platform, i.e., aspects and components, have been implemented and run under Unix and Windows platforms. To make sure that the COMET platform is indeed suitable for vehicles and especially engine control, we need to port the platform to the real engine control software. Hence, the goal of this project is to port COMET platform to the be incorporated in the engine control software.

This project is jointly supervised by Aleksandra Tesanovic and Thomas Gustafsson, and examined by Jörgen Hansson.
