About Linköping
Although Linköping has a history as a seat of learning that goes back to the
13th century, Linköping's modern academic history has its roots in the late
sixties. Situated 200 km south of Stockholm, Linköping is easily accessible.
During the past fifty years, Linköping has grown from a small town to become the
fifth largest city in Sweden. It is home to industries based on front-line
research and emerging technologies. Several government agencies and enterprises
have been relocated to Linköping during the past few decades. You will find the
majority of the students - technology students, liberal arts students, economics
students and social scientists - at the main campus at Valla, three kilometers
outside the town center. The students at the faculty of Health Sciences spend
their days on premises close to the University Hospital.
About the county of Östergötland
Linköping has been a religious and educational center in the region since the
medieval times, in the fertile agricultural district of
Östergötland. This region is full of historical remnants
and beautiful medieval towns, with a varying landscape and
an abundance of lakes and water systems, linked together
by Göta Kanal, with as many as 40 locks, a result of the
past century´s endeavours to link the Baltic coast of
Sweden with the Atlantic. Engineers did the construction,
the tough manual labor was done by some 50 000 permanent
state soldiers. Now Göta Kanal is a scenic and peaceful
waterway, trafficked by steamboats carrying tourists with
all the time in the world.
How to get to Linköping University
The twin cities Linköping and Norrköping are situated in southern
Sweden, 200 kilometers south of Stockholm. The Copenhagen-Stockholm link
of the central European railroad trunk passes through the cities, as does
the arterial Euro-Highway 4 (E4). The distance between the two cities is
40 kilometers.

Air
By air it takes about one hour from the Copenhagen International Airport
and 35 minutes from the Stockholm International Airport. There are two local
airports - one in Linköping and one in Norrköping - with regular
flight connections to domestic and international destinations.
Those arriving at Norrköping International Airport can continue
to Linköping by taxi. The taxi fee from Norrköping International
Airport to Linköping is approximately 500 SEK one-way. When planning
to leave Linköping make sure that you book an airport taxi to Norrköping
Airport in advance through a travel agency or SAS booking office. In that
way you can get a reduced fee.
The cheapest alternative for those arriving at Linköping Airport is to
take a taxi downtown to "Trädgårdstorget", and from there
continue by bus to their final destination.
It is also possible to continue to Linköping by commuter bus or
train, but in that case you must first take a taxi to downtown Norrköping
(five kilometers). Commuter bus 49 will take you to Linköping. Trains
also run regularly. |
Train
Linköping and Norrköping can be reached by train or car from
Copenhagen in five hours and from Stockholm in less than two and a half
