SWEBPROD - Semantic Web for Products

In future product development, information in context (semantic information or knowledge) plays a large role, since complex documents and software components have to be integrated and many applications have to interoperate. Companies encounter many problems in consistency checking and comparison of documents/software of different tools, search and information retrieval in such documents, composition of documents, and traceability of requirements throughout the lifetime of products. To tackle these problems, SWEBPROD will investigate the mechanisms in the Semantic Web movement (ontologies, ontology languages) to develop semantics-based solution methods, in particular rule-based specification of policies for information retrieval and consistency checking, ontology mapping for interoperability, fast ontology evaluation for user satisfaction, and semantics-based tracing of requirements. All technologies will be integrated in an innovative knowledge engineering environment for product development (SWEP).

The overall goal of this project is to develop a knowledge-based ontology engineering technology for product engineering and to demonstrate it in a product development platform (SWEP).
