CAISOR Website Cluster
Structure of the CAISOR Website Cluster
The previous page showed a few examples of
research issues that I address or have addressed. Since the presentation
of these activities must be multi-faceted and connected,
I have chosen to use webpages as a publication medium, and
to organize a collection of interconnected, persistent websites that
address specific aspects of the work. The webpages provide linkage, structure,
and overview; they also contain links to conventional research
articles and reports that spell out the detailed results.
The CAISOR websites can be grouped under the following general headings:
- Knowledge Representation and Information Analysis
(2 sites)
- Knowledge Representation, Computational Autonomy, and
General Software Architecture (2 sites)
- Analysis and Development of Electronic Publishing Technology
(5 sites), with particular emphasis on Open Access
- Common Basis for the entire cluster (4 sites).
Some of these sites are hosted at Linköping University, Sweden, others
at KTH - Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden; their contents
are the result of work at both of these two institutions. Most of them
represent work that has been done in recent years, but some of it is older
and may even go as far back as the 1960's.
The following is an overview of the sites in each of the groups.
Common Basis for the Cluster
- MORADOR:
Methodology of Research and Dissemination Of its Results. This site
argues that the methodology of research in systems-oriented computer
science needs to be made more clear than it is today, and proposes a
paradigm for exploration-oriented systems research.
- CAISOR Hyperbook and Archive:
An archive of research articles and reports during a 40-year period, and
a collection of tutorial material in hyperbook form. Open access to
the research articles in the projects shown below is provided by this
repository.
- CAISOR-Leordo:
This is the software tool that is used as a basis for several of the
projects shown below. Leordo is a small and reasonably well documented subset of
Leonardo which is the experimental system of one of the research projects
(see below).
Sites for Knowledge Representation and Information Analysis
- CAISOR-KRF:
The main site in this group.
A Knowledge Representation Framework expressed as a suite of
lecture notes. It is used in several of the projects described below.
- CKL, the
Common Knowledge Library. This is an open-access fact and knowledge base
presently containing almost 70.000 entities each with a number of
attributes and values. CKL pays strong attention to quality control
issues for its contents.
- INKA:
Internet-Based Knowledge Acquisition and
Publication Project. This project produces contents for the CKL
knowledgebase and develops tools and techniques for this activity.
The site also proposes Information Analysis as a worthwhile
research activity with its own methodological character.
Sites for Knowledge Representation, Computational Autonomy, and
General Software Architecture
- CASL:
homepage of the Cognitive Autonomous Systems Laboratory at
Linköping University, with research e.g. on methods for dialog
between humans and autonomous robots.
- CAISOR-LEONARDO:
A new approach to the design of general software systems, based on
methods from knowledge representation research, and in particular using
the CAISOR-KRF framework. A subset of it, called Leordo, is
used as a platform for several of the other projects.
Sites for Analysis and Development of Electronic Publishing Technology
- ADEPT:
As the main site in this group, this is an
entrypoint for overview of our current activities concerning
the Analysis and Development of Electronic Publishing Technology.
- KASP,
a Knowledgebase Addressing Scientific Publishing. This is a section
of the Common Knowledge Library (mentioned above) that contains
information about scientific journals, their publishers, and
some related topics.
- COAR, a
Commentary on Open Access to Research, containing information and
opinions on selected topics relating to Open Access. This is not
a site for research results; its purpose
is to provide information to researchers and students in
our universities concerning Open Access and related topics.
- JARSS:
the Journal Article Reviewing Support System, a software system
supporting the operation of an editorial board.
- MADMAN:
a system for Management of Articles, Data, Manuscripts And Notes.
It is intended as a tool for a researcher or a research group, and
as a complement to the JARSS system. (Under development).
Website Design Principles and Support
Those sites that are hosted in Linköping are maintained by the
ExT activity,
for "Electronic Publication x Software Technology".
Those sites that are hosted at KTH are maintained as a part of the
PIEX site,
for "Publication Infrastructure Experimental Website".
The design principles and design philosophy for these websites are
described in the separate little website for the
CAISOR Webstyle.
Some aspects of them are also described in the site for
CAISOR Hyperbook and Archive
and in the
old CAISOR entry page.
Additional sites that are also maintained using the CAISOR webstyle
include:
- history.ida,
the beginnings of a persistent website documenting the history of
IDA - the Department of Computer and Information Science in Linköping.
- TDDA16,
the webpage for one of the courses at IDA.
- TDDA23,
the webpage for another one of the courses at IDA.
