Abstract: This paper describes the construction of an integrated VLSI design environment based on a unified design representation. This design representation is derived from timed petri nets and consists of separate but related models of control and data parts. It can represent multi-level details of a design, thus supporting a hierarchical design methodology. The proposed design environment, the CAMAD design aid system, is currently under development at Linköping University. The major properties of CAMAD as well as reasoning behind them are presented.
