Soheil Samii (he/him/his)

Dr. Soheil Samii is a Senior Associate Professor at the Department of Computer and Information Science at Linkoping University, and part of ELLIIT Recruited Faculty. He obtained his PhD degree (Computer Systems) in 2011, "Docent" in 2020, and has spent many years in industry, including SAAB (Sweden), Opel (Germany), General Motors (USA), and Motional (USA). Dr. Samii applies his extensive industry experience and professional network in research projects. He conducts research broadly in the areas of cyber-physical and embedded systems, with particular focus on design and optimization of safety-critical applications. He is expanding this line of research towards the inclusion of cellular communication and edge/cloud computing as an integral part of cyber-physical systems.

Dr. Samii has published more than 40 papers at international conferences and journals. He holds more than 20 patents (excluding several pending), and has served as a voting member in the IEEE 802.1 Working Group, where he actively participated in the development of Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) standards for Ethernet. He received the Working Group Chairs award for outstanding contributions to IEEE Std 802.1Qcr-2020 (Asynchronous Traffic Scheduling). Dr. Samii collaborates frequently in international contexts. Past collaborations include joint projects and publications with researchers at Carnegie Mellon University, Virginia Tech, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, University of Duisburg-Essen, and Danish Technical University.

Dr. Samii has also led multiple research projects in industry (General Motors), including fail-operational system architectures for semi-automated and automated driving applications, the use of Ethernet in safety-critical automotive systems, zonal automotive E/E architecture, and software-defined vehicles. He has also served as the technical advisor to GM's Executive Director of Global Research and Development. In that capacity, he participated at the Michigan Governor's Council on Future Mobility, and he organized GM's exhibit, keynote, and presentations at the 2018 ITS America Annual Conference.
