Invitation to an Informal Workshop on
The Use of Functional Languages in Industry
The
Erlang
Experience
As a satellite activity to the
International Conference on Compiler Construction (CC'96)
here in Linköping, April 24-26th, 1996, we invite you to an informal workshop on
The Use of Functional Languages in Industry - The Erlang
Experience.
Time: Thursday April 25th. Start at 4.15 p.m. and may continue until
dinner at 7 p.m.
Room: Lyceum (same floor as CC'96)
There will be a few presentations but no proceedings.
Copies of papers, if any, will be distributed to the participants.
The intention is to encourage free discussion, but short presentations
and positions statements are welcome.
Draft Program:
- Opening of Workshop
Bengt Lennartsson, Dept. of Comp.&Information Sc., Linköpings Universitet.
- Announcement of some master theses:
- ERLANG a Declarative Language - Its Use in Industrial Applications.
Torbjorn Keisu, Ericsson Software Technology AB
- ERLANG a Declarative Language - How to Meet the Performance Requirements.
Bogumil Hausman, Computer Science Lab, Ericsson Telecom AB
- RAVE - a declarative language for expressing corporate legality. Design and implementation.
Lennart Augustsson & Staffan Truve', Carlstedt Research & Technology AB
Abstract:
RAVE is a declarative language used to express "corporate legality"
in a formal way. The legality rules expressed in RAVE can be used
in different applications, but the original use is for checking
the correctness of crew schedules for airlines. RAVE borrows ideas
from both functional and object oriented languages. The RAVE
compiler is written in Haskell, and uses several advanced analyses
to improve performance, e.g. partial evaluation.
- The DAISY Project - Evaluating Erlang and the Mobility Server for a Wireless Office System.
Per Elmdahl, Ericsson Radio Systems AB. E-post: erapeel@lmera.ericsson.se
Abstract: The Daisy project aimed at building competence on Erlang and the
Mobility Server for an upcoming Wireless Office project. Experiences
from this project were gathered. Erlang and the Mobility Server proved
to be a promising platform for the future. The presentation will
discuss some issues observed during the project.
- FINAL DISCUSSION.
Please mail me if you would like to attend, and if so, please submit
