TDDC78 Distance Teaching Information 2021

Due to the continuing pandemic situation in Sweden, TDDC78 will be entirely distance-based also in spring 2021. LiU students and employees are strongly recommended to work from home if any possible.

Here are some rules that apply for distance teaching and examination in TDDC78:

  • In order to reduce the load on server and network resources please keep your camera switched off during lectures and lessons. Special rules apply for labs, esp. demonstrations, see below.
  • As VPN reduces available bandwidth, it is recommended to switch off VPN during video meetings.
  • In order to eliminate unnecessary sound interferences, please mute your microphone.
  • If you have a question, please use the chat channel to signal this.
  • We keep the scheduled times, i.e., start sessions on time at xx:15, and lectures will have a 15 minutes break in the middle. During the break, the lecturer will be available for answering more specific questions.
  • We use Zoom for the lectures, lessons and lab supervision. In order to avoid disturbance by unauthorized third persons, we do not put the Zoom session links on the public web page. Instead, these will be communicated in advance via email on the course mailing list, and we also collect them under the password-protected handouts page.
Also, we ask you to sign in to Zoom with your LiU-ID, not your private Zoom account, and explicitly request this for all lab sessions.
  • A special procedure will be used for queueing for the lab assistants during lab sessions, information will be given in the first lesson (mandatory).
  • Lab supervision will only be given during scheduled lab sessions, not e.g. via email.
  • At LiU it is generally forbidden to record lectures or other teaching sessions, regardless whether given physically or on distance. More information can be found here. More about laws and university rules can be found here.
  • For the TDDC78 labs you will need a ssh client on your laptop to log into the NSC supercomputer Sigma used for the labs. Thinlinc might not work.
  • Please respect the specific security rules for remotely logging into NSC resources, as instructed in the NSC introductory lecture on 30 March 2021. See also e.g. the user agreement that you sign electronically in the first week of the course when applying for an account at NSC.
  • For lab demonstrations (i.e., examination) via Zoom we require that you use a web camera and can show up a valid photo ID.

Thanks for your understanding and support.
