ABSTRACT
This project concerns a study of performance analysis tools dedicated to
computer networking. This investigation was carried out in order to assess the
abilities of these tools to represent and simulate models under real-time
constraints. Two software packages have been tested and evaluated QASE RT, an
information system simulator, and OPNET, a communication system simulator.
The method employed consisted in four steps: theoretical studies, simulation
tool evaluation, simulation and reporting. Two networks have been used to
illustrate the tools' functionalities: the actual network at the Department of
Computer and Information Science (IDA) and a client/server-oriented network.
The results of the simulations applied on these models are discussed. The
advantages and disadvantages of the evaluated tools are presented at the end
of this document.
