ABSTRACT
This paper explores some aspects concerning systemlevel specification, modelling and simulation of real-time embedded systems in the context of telecommunication applications. By means of case studies, we investigate how UML suits the modelling of industrial scale real-time systems, and how different architectures can be explored by model simulation. In this paper we are mainly interested in the problem of system specification as it appears from the prospect of the whole design process. Our main focus is on how OO methodologies, and in particular UML, support such requirements and how they can be used for the specification and design of complex embedded systems. The discussion is based on a GSM base transceiver station model.
