The following article has been submitted to the present ETAI area.   Caesar Sengupta, Mohit Chugh, and Pyush Agrawal: Transparent Development of User Profiles with Relevance to Web-Portal Design. Abstract: In this paper, we analyze the present techniques of customization of user interfaces, provided by web-portals, prevalent on the World Wide Web today. Then we go on to propose a new system which will provide a more in-depth picture of the individual accessing the site and consequently will provide a greater degree of customization. We will then compare this new system with the existing one. Our effort is to show that the present techniques have reached the limit of their usefulness and a new methodology needs to be adopted. We will also attempt to show that this new methodology can be smoothly assimilated with the present one, by simply changing the way a web server serves the dynamic search result pages. At the end, we will also briefly enumerate some of the applications of such user profiles.
