CAISOR Research Agenda

Information Technology 4

IT4 was the software branch of a major Swedish research program for information technology. Our project within IT4 was called "Plan-based systems" and was focussed on theory and methods for action planning, in the A.I. sense of the word. The work was done within the framework of RKLLAB (see its menu item).

This IT4 grant provided the initial resources for the development of two lines of research in Linköping: Patrick Doherty's work that led up to TALPlanner, and Christer Bäckströms work (continued by Peter Jonsson) on complexity analysis of planning algorithms. Both of these lines of research have of course had a major impact on the research in the field.

It is interesting to note, by the way, that these work did not reach maturation and recognition until well after the end of the IT4 program, so that they were not clearly visible in the final reports of that program. This is an example of the difficulty of evaluating the results of a short period of research funding right at the end of the funding period.

The IT4 research program also funded our participation in the Prometheus project, as a separate grant. Please refer to "Prometheus" on the menu of the present webpage.
