Requirements for ECSEL graduates

The ECSEL requirements are goal oriented. An ECSEL graduate shall:

  • have a thesis topic within ECSEL areas of interest.
  • have a foundational knowledge within core competence in ECSEL and have completed the project-oriented study (POS).
  • have a knowledge of the research fields in ECSEL and how they link together.
  • have undertaken a study plan on their admission. The study plan should indicate that the student will complete the foundational course requirements and the project-oriented study (POS) within 2 1/2 years after being admitted to ECSEL.

STRATEGY

The strategy to obtain the goals is as follows.

  • A study plan should be accepted by the ECSEL graduate school board.
The foundational knowledge is achieved by undergraduate studies or by foundational courses offered by ECSEL. This is part of the study plan.
  • The research fields in ECSEL and how they link together are treated in what is called Project Oriented Studies (POS).They also provide an opportunity to collaborate across fields and to identify needs for new research. The Project Oriented Studies are mandatory, because this type of knowledge hardly can be obtained by self study.

A full ECSEL graduate will take 6 units in POS, and may have to take another 15 units in foundational knowledge, which makes a sum of 21 units.

Requirements for obtaining ECSEL PhD or Licentiate Diploma:

ECSEL's graduate students who are approaching their PhD or Licentiate degree are required to have, as part of their research program, completed the following in order to be awarded ECSEL Diploma:
  • Foundational knowledge in computer science and systems engineering
The graduate student is required to have completed the foundational courses as indicated in his/her individual study plan.
  • Project Oriented Study (POS)
