Recommended for
PhD students (and possibly masters students) in cognitive science and computer science. The course could also be interesting for PhD students in psychology, communication, philosophy or other areas overlapping with the cognitive sciences.

Goals
The course covers theories, methods and technology in the research front of the area. It aims to provide an understanding of current theoretical issues as well as practical knowledge of implementation and/or evaluation of agent- or robot-based interactive systems.
Prerequisites
Some background in the cognitive sciences or artificial intelligence.
Good knowlewdge of either programming, usability testing or empirical methods.
Organization
The course consist of 2 introductory lectures, 5 student led literature seminars, practical project work, and 2 seminars for presentation and discussion of project work.
Contents
The course covers the following theoretical areas:
- Interaction: natural language, body language, emotion
- Embodiment, antropomorphism, and presence
- Visual appearance and personality
- Application areas such as: learning, training, health, entertainment
- Methods for design and evaluation
The project focus on design, implementation or evaluation of an interactive
application with a virtual embodied agent or a robot.
