Course plan

Lectures

There will be four lectures (approximately four hours each) for the course. The course will _not_ be offered in an intensive format.

Recommended for

This is an advanced and active research topic. Primarily intended for researchers, PhD students and practitioners working in the area of real-time and embedded systems. However, masters' students with an active interest in this topic are also highly encouraged to participate.

The course was last given

This is a new course.

Goals

After the course, the students will be able to understand
- key challenges of predictable system-performance on advanced architectures
- several automated techniques to analyze system-performance on advanced processors, such as multi-core platforms
- designing and optimizing software systems to achieve predictable performance on current-generation processors
- design strategies of hardware platforms that strikes a right balance between predictable-performance and the usage of advanced hardware features, such as parallel computation
- open challenges in the respective topic

Prerequisites

- Basic knowledge in computer architecture, specifically, memory hierarchy.
- Basic knowledge in program structure and semantics, such as control flow graph and abstract syntax tree.
- Some familiarity about the concepts taught in "Introduction to Performance Validation of Embedded Software" (offered in 2014HT) will be a plus. The course contents can be found in http://www.ida.liu.se/~sudch88/RA/teaching.html
