Ove Ivarsen is officer at LO, the Swedish Confederation for Trade Unions and responsible for policymaking regarding the use of IT in work and society. Started as a local union representative in 1967 and had several elected positions util he in 1974 was employed as an officer in the Swedish Socialist Youth Organisation, SSU. In 1976 he was employed at the Swedish Wood Workers Union as a study officer. He moved to LO in 1982 and was first responsible for the producing of study materials, mainly for use in study circles. In the late 80s and the early 90s, he worked mainly with the developing of strategies and methods for union studies, leadership and union work. 1993 he started a major test with distance learning with computer support, The project was evaluated and presented in 1994 and led to a new concept for union education. In 1995 he was appointed as an IT-ombudsman at LO and expected to create new strategies and policy’s for union action in the new Information Society to come. An important issue was from the beginning how IT could contribute to adult learning an especially in the context of union studies. Ove is chairman in the steering committee for the DLK-project and by that position LOs link into the project.
