Close Encounters? - European trade unions and e-learning

This presentation will consider some of the experiences of using computer-mediated distance learning in trade union education and training activities taking place at a European level and will highlight some of the challenges posed by using e-learning approaches in transnational contexts, bringing together trade unionists from different national and linguistic communities.

It will also consider how work in this field might be progressed through co-operation at a European level, as well as arguing the need for a more rigorous conceptualisation of different types of learning activity, for more detailed documentation and evaluation of activities and outcomes, and for closer collaboration and exchange of experiences between those involved in e-learning activities in trade unions in different European countries.
