Research areas
- Knowledge-based systems.
The research in knowledge-based systems focuses on knowledge
acquisition, knowledge-acquisition tools, ontologies and reusable
problem-solving methods. One of the approaches involves use metalevel
tools to provide automatic generation of domain-specific
knowledge-acquisition tools. Current work includes techniques for
adding semantics to documents, such as PDF documents.
- Medical informatics.
Areas of interest include support for (1) medical terminologies, (2)
injury registration in emergency rooms, and (3) workflow support
(e.g., medical protocols). Another interesting area is medical
intranets.
- Network-based systems and ubiquitous computing.
Areas of interest include (1) network-based applications and services,
(2) Java programming, and (3) various aspects of ubiquitous computing.
- Command and control systems.
Areas of interest include (1) computer-based support for staff members
and command-and-control groups, and (2) simulation, especially
simulation for training.
