TDDD56 Multicore and GPU Programming (6 ECTS)

Autumn2 2012

Latest News...

10/01/2013  Tentavisning / Exam review

The exam of 20 december has been corrected and reported to Ladok. An exam review opportunity (tentavisning) has been scheduled for monday 14 january 2013 at 12:30-13:00 in room John von Neumann, IDA.

11/12  Parallel sorting challenge awards

Congratulations to the winners of the 2012 Parallel Sorting Challenge: Alexander Steen and Marcus Widegren (category Konrad Zuse), Simon Dahlborg and Lukas Gillsjö (category Southfork).
The awards will be handed out in the last lecture on friday 14/12/2012.
Congratulations also to all other teams participating in the challenge, as they have all shown very nice speedup, far beyond our initial expectations.

26/11  CPU parallel sorting contest

You can consult the current results at www.ida.liu.se/~nicme26/tddd56.en.shtml or visit the dedicated page www-und.ida.liu.se/~nicme26/ for further details.
To all groups having expressed their intention to participate but who do not appear in the results, please contact Nicolas Melot so he can include your code before friday 28/11. It will be too late to join the challenge at a later time.
We will award the two winner groups (with the fastest code in room Konrad Zuse resp. in Southfork) in the final lecture on 14 december; the winning groups will be given the opportunity to briefly explain their implementation.

26/11  CPU lab deadline has passed

We have decided to give a deadline extension to finish the CPU labs. You have until the examination day to present and send your lab to your lab assistant. After this hard deadline, you can come back next year.
In the meanwhile, for those who did not make the initial deadline, we will from now only take questions about bugs in the original skeleton. We will not discuss lab theory, code debugging, implementations guidelines or requests for clues. (This restriction is also valid for groups planned to meet this week.) We will continue however, to take lab demos and the lab assistants stay available for questions regarding theory exercises.

26/11  Changes in week 48

Because of sickness, the lecture on 26/11 10-12 had to be cancelled; it will be given at a later time if possible.
The lab session for Group B on wednesday 28/11 13:00-17:00 (CUDA lab 1) will be given by Usman Dastgeer (IDA).

20/11  Report on Muddy-Card Evaluation

The report on the muddy-card mid-term evaluation of TDDD56 at 15/11/2012 is now available here.

5/11  Swapping lectures 6 and 7

The lectures 6 on (most of) parallel sorting and 7 on non-blocking synchronization will be swapped in order to introduce lab2-relevant contents on non-blocking synchronization a bit earlier (friday 9 nov 13-15).

24/10  Lab group information for students from Norrköping

I have been contacted by several Norrköping-based students who have difficulties with the evening lab hours. Please note that, as the course is fully booked, we cannot allow arbitrary dynamic switching between lab groups.
Webreg will be opened at course start. It will be easiest if students from Norrköping register in webreg for group B (held in the IDA Multicore Lab) because this group is mostly scheduled for non-evening times, and, if really necessary, you might change with some lab team from group C for some lab session (but you keep the assistant of your main group for all demonstrating and correcting of labs).
Try to be fast with your webreg registration because group B is only half-class size so it might quickly fill up. If you still end up in the "wrong" lab group please find someone to switch groups with you and ask the course assistant, Nicolas Melot, to commit the group change in webreg.

22/08  Course HT2012 is fully booked

Currently, the course for autumn 2012 is full.
Non-registered students please contact the studierektor Prof. Patrick Lambrix for inclusion in the waiting list.
Unregistered students are welcome to attend the lectures, but the lab sessions are reserved for the registered participants, for whom attendance is mandatory.
Students who registered earlier but no longer want to take the course please deregister so that someone else can take your place.
