TDDB63 Concurrent Programming and Operating Systems

Reading HT 2005

Textbook

The official course book for the operating system course is:
  • Silberschatz, Galvin, Gagne, Operating Systems Concepts, Wiley. (seventh edition)

Students who have previous versions of the text book but not anterior to fifth edition, can use it for the course.

Check the errata official and local page for the seventh edition before reporting.

For years Silberschatz's book was the only course book. During HT 2005, this book is still considered to be the official course book, but students who would like to get deeper into operating systems are encouraged to purchase William Stallings' book:

  • William Stallings, Operating Systems: Internals and Design Principles, Pearson. (fifth edition)

Please note, detailed reading instructions are listed on the last slide of each lecture and refer to Silberschatz's book.
