Laboratory Sessions

The course includes 7 laboratory sessions (two hours each) and one lesson in which the course assistant will discuss different aspects about the lab assignments and their evaluation.

The lab assignments are to be done in groups of two students (using one computer). You must keep the same partner for all assignments.

You are expected to read and prepare the material related to the lab before going to the supervised laboratory sessions. In this way, you may take more advantage of the laboratory time. The sessions are intended for implementations, asking questions, getting support from your lab assistant, and demonstrating your assignment when it is complete.

You will obtain 1 point for the labs.

Lab Registration

You must choose your lab partner and sign up for the labs through a web interface. You log in using the same user name and password as you use when logging in on IDA's computer system. When registering, you may select any group.

The deadline for lab registration is 30th of January 2007.

Assignments

The assignments are built around an Electronic Postcard Application that has to be implemented during the lab sessions. The Electronic Postcard application contains several components that are distributed over the network at IDA. Each assignment requires the implementation of one such component in the application.

In order to pass the labs, students are required to demonstrate each of the assignments to the lab assistant. The deadlines for demonstrating all the assignments are: 24-March-2007, 22-June-2007, 29-August-2007. Submissions after these deadlines will not be considered until one week before the next deadline.

Lessons

The purpose of the lessons is to explain and clarify the issues related to the laboratory sessions. There will be only one lesson, given at two different times, before all the lab sessions start. Each student is expected to attend at most one of these two sessions (there were some misunderstandings in previous years, so we try to make it clear: it does not make sense to attend both lessons, since the same material will be presented each time).

FAQ

When you encounter a problem please read the FAQ, as it might answer your questions. If the FAQ still does not help you, then address your questions to the lab assistants,
