The study focussed on software designers as being not only software producers but also users of software. The results show that in order to benefit productivity and quality, improvements of the methodologies and tools that support co-work and document traceability are often more essential than many other improvements. In the paper the concept of 'user-centered requirements' and its implications on design work are developed from a bifocal perspective, the designers' and the potential customers' perspective. From the standpoint that design should be requirement-driven, methodological implications for productive, user-centered software engineering environments are traced and discussed }, IDANR = {LiTH-IDA-R-92-08}, NOTE = {Presented at NATO Workshop on Software Requirement for Software Environments, Touluse, France, 5-11 september 1991}
