ABSTRACT = {A novel approach for extraction of pipeline structures from high-level behavioral VLSI design descriptions is presented. Unlike previous work, it is not restricted to exploitation of loops in the design, but can handle arbitrary computation structures without apparent pipelining properties. General criteria for locating pipeline structures are discussed, and an algorithm, utilizing several heuristics, that produces multi-function pipelines for those parts of the design that are feasible for pipelining, is presented.},
