Log files analysis tools and open source software
Log file analysis tools have been investigated and the concentration lie on open software. The thesis is divided into three main parts: need analysis and interviews, a chart of log file analysis tools and an empiric investigation of three selected log file analysis tools. Topics included in this study are: user environment, support alternatives, installation and configuration of log file analysis tools.
The empirical study's purpose is to judge selected tools' usefulness when bringing about and uphold good safety level for today's computer system. Intrusion detection, cause of problems, to show the incorrect use of computer resources, and the resource supervision to prevent overcharging are exampels of investigated parts.
The aim with this project is to judge if there is in companies' and organisations' interest to be helped with log file analysis. The report focus on searching the advantages with tools based on open source.
The conclusion is that there is interest and requirements to offer companies and organisations help with log file analysis. This applies for log file analysis tools with both open and closed source.
