Construction of a DFS client for the operating system Linux, for the use with a DFS server in a DCE network

This thesis is about creating a distributed file system (DFS) client for a Linux operating system, to be used in a distributed computing environment (DCE). The DCE system is developed by The Open Group, which is an organisation consisting of several large companies, and universities throughout the world. The purpose of this thesis are to examine ways to contruct a DFS client for the Linux operating system, to discuss which way is preferred, and to begin the programming part of it. The programming part is focused on the connection between Linux and the DFS client. The part which is not yet programmed, is the connection between the DFS client and the DCE system. The report consists of two main parts. The first contains a description of the DCE/DFS system, as well as the Linux system, with emphasis on its virtual file system. The second part of the report deals with the implementation of a DFS client on Linux.
