WAP, Wireless Application Protocol, is a protocol which enables communication between mobile units and different applications. By using this technology we have developed a service which makes it possible to administrate and navigate a mailbox in OpenVoice with a WAP unit. OpenVoice is a general telephony platform supplied by Teligent AB. With the present system you must call into the mailbox and get the alternatives through a voice menu. röstbrevlåda The service´s functionality contains logging in to OpenVoice, changing PIN code, setting numbers for notification, activating notifications, see which messages that are in the mailbox and remove, save and listen to/read messages. The service is adjusted for Nokia 7110, which was the only WAP mobile phone on the market, when we started working on our thesis. Since WAP is a rather new protocol, newer versions will mean prominent improvements. We have compared WAP v1.1 with WAP v1.2, since Nokia 7110 is based on WAP v1.1 and WAP v1.2 is approved by WAPForum (http://www.wapforum.org). WAP v1.2 offers some new features, the most significant is the Push technology, which means that the server can initiate communication with the client.
