Master Thesis - Past Projects - AbstractData Collection in Distributed Command and Control Systems with Mobile AgentsID: LiTH-IDA-Ex-00/65 In modern military command and control the demands for faster and cheaper exercises grows all the time. One result of this is the desire
to get as much information out of each exercise as possible for evaluation purposes. One area with a lot of rarely used data is in the log
files in these systems. To extract this information different techniques can be uses where mobile agents are one that has been widely
spread in the last few years. This report describes the possible usage of mobile agents in distributed command and control systems from
a military point of view. Different commercial agent development tools, COTS, where tested to examine the mobile agent technology and
evaluate if and how it can be used to collect data from log files in distributed military command and control systems. The result shows
that the mobile agent concept is an accessible path but that further work is needed. The technique has benefits compared to the
accustomed client-server model, especially from a military aspect. The work was done at FOA (the Swedish National Defence Research
Establishment) in the Division of Human Sciences and resulted in example agents and this report.
