Birger Rapp

Professor in Economic Information Systems

 

 

Professor Birger Rapp is born in 1940. He is married to Birgitta and they have three children. He has, since 1987, a chair in Economic Information Systems, Department of Computer and Information Science, Linköping Institute of Technology and Linköping University. Earlier he has been associate professor in Business Administration and in Production Economics and in Forest Economics at the Universities of Stockholm, Linköping and Umeå. Before 1987 he was deputy full professor in Business Administration at Stockholm University. He has also been visiting professor at EIASM, Brussels. Today he is a member of the board of the Department of Computer and Information Science. He is also research leader for the research group Information Technology and Organisational Structure. 

He has been the president of SORA, The Swedish Operational Research Association and their representative both in EURO (The Association of European Operational Research Societies within IFORS) and in IFORS. He was the second president of EURO and is now vice president at large of IFORS, 1995-1998. He has been session co-ordinator at several conferences and he was the general co-ordinator for the EURO-TIMS conference in Lausanne.

He is program director in Management and Economic Information Systems at IMIT (Institute of Management of Innovation and Technology). He is the president of the board of Distansforum (The Swedish association for Telework) and he has been an expert in the public investigation of Telework (Distansarbetsutredningen).

He belongs to the editorial (advisory) boards to the following international journals, EJOR, IJMSD, JORBEL and Omega. He is also a referee to several other scientific journals.

He has published books in investment theory, in production planning and in control and principal agent theory and a great many papers in international journals. He is a senior consultant to many Swedish companies and he has been the president of the Pronova Research and Development Board in Sweden.
