Specifics of Review Procedure

With minor variations from case to case, the following principles will apply for all cases where ETAI undertakes to publish a workshop issue:
  • Authors of workshop papers are invited to submit their papers, with a possibility to revise the paper before;

  • The workshop organizer(s) and one ETAI area editor are jointly responsible for the reviewing and refereeing of these papers;

  • The period for open review discussion may be abbreviated in view of the discussion that has already taken place at the workshop. This is decided on a case by case basis;

  • Accepted articles from the workshop are combined into a specially designated set that is identified with the workshop. These articles may constitute a special issue or special volume, depending on the number and size of the articles.

Two alternative schemes will be used with respect to invitation and submission:

  • In the open submission scheme, all workshop authors are invited to submit their papers to the ETAI, and no particular prediction is made about the chances of acceptance. Acceptance is decided on the basis of confidential refereeing.

  • In the invited submission scheme, the workshop organizer(s) and area editor decide to invite a certain number of papers from the workshop, taking also the reviewing preceding the workshop into account. Authors of invited papers are told that their article will quite likely be accepted to the journal, barring the discovery of some unexpected problem during the reviewing and refereeing phase.

The choice of which of these schemes to apply will be made on a case to case basis from one participating workshop to the next.
