Abstract: This paper is a description of a technique to allow the manipulation of conceptual scales by domain experts through interaction and manipulation of a folding Hasse diagram. By providing a set of manipulations, the domain expert, with only an intuitive understanding of the underlying representational theory - formal concept analysis - is able to construct scales to investigate text data. The method shows how a knowledge representation language, and its diagrammatic rendering, can be used to navigate a document collection.
