EMTEK stands for the Entity for Methodology and Technology of Knowledge Management. This small unit within the Department of Computer and Information Science at Linköping University works on the use of information technology (Internet, World Wide Web, Electronic Document Systems, and so on) for academic communication.
In "academic communication" we include both communication between researchers (electronic journals and colloquia, for example) and communication in the academic learning situation - the communication between teachers and students, between students themselves, and also for the cooperation between teachers.
More recently, systems that have been developed in EMTEK are being adapted for use in the Laboratory for Cognitive Autonomous Systems (CASL), with applications in the dialogue part of the WITAS autonomous UAV system.
EMTEK is not a regular university research group, since we do not normally have any doctorand students. (Doctorands belong to other labs in our division, AIICS). We do have senior guest researchers from time to time, but our major activity is for various kinds of support to the other groups in AIICS as well as to the research community in general.
