CAISOR Memos and Project Reports
We make a distinction between articles, project reports, and research
memos, as follows: Articles include those published in journals,
those published in conference proceedings, and others that are
written in similar style; often but not always already submitted for
external publication. Project reports includes our reports to
research sponsors or other similar agencies to report on work that
is concluded or in progress. It also includes evaluations that have
been made by such agencies, if released to the public. Research
memos includes working memos that are working
material within a research project, background memos that
describe e.g. the reasons for a particular choice of research topic,
or how the work developed, and some other kinds. Since we are
working in a university, lecture notes is a fourth category
besides articles, project reports, and research memos.
The CAISOR website can operate as a publisher for all of these categories.
Project reports and research memos are listed in the present section of
the site. For articles, please refer to
Articles > About the archive site > Inhouse Publications
using the top-line menu item for Articles.
The topics for memos on the CAISOR website may be of several kinds:
CAISOR Memos are included in some of the 'structured' divisions
of this website (Welcome, Hyperbook, Projects, etc). In addition,
the present division provides a chronological listing of these
Memos for the sake of reference and overview. Memos are listed here for
the year when they were written, regardless of whether they were
actually made publicly available at that time or not.
- Introduction, survey or tutorial for a research topic that is
covered in this site;
- Historical background about the emergence of a particular
field of study;
- New research materiel on a topic that is position between or
outside established research topics, making it difficult to
publish by conventional means;
- Documentation of a piece of software that has been developed
within a project;
- A detailed report of a computational experiment;
- An ad-hoc survey of research in a particular area;
- Debate notes;
- Notes on methodology of research.
At this point no CAISOR Memos have yet been added to the site.
CAISOR Project Reports are an archive of organizational documents, such
as annual and final progress reports of a research group, presentations
for the general public, and the like. Documents from earlier years will be
accumulated gradually into this archive. In most cases these documents
are cited in the webnotes under section for 'History' (selectable in
the top-line menu).
Persistence and Citability
Persistence will be an important consideration for the Memos as
well as for all other parts of the CAISOR website. Each memo has
its own index page with a persistent URL, therefore, and links to
these index pages are encouraged.
