Commentarium on Open Access to Research
Welcome to OpenAccess.se/COAR
Note: The COAR structure that you are visiting now,
on
http://www.ida.liu.se/ext/coar/
has been 'frozen' and is no longer updated or extended.
Another copy of COAR is maintained at KTH in Stockholm, at
http://piex.publ.kth.se/coar/. Therefore,
please change any current links to the present URL so that
they refer to the new one instead, since it will henceforth
be the up-to-date version.
This website contains a collection of short notes about the
topic of Open Access in particular from three points of view:
- The point of view of the active researcher: in what ways
is the current movement towards open access for research
journals and research articles relevant for you? What
do you need to take into account when you choose where to
submit your articles? What should you think about before
signing the contract for copyright release? and so on.
- The software technology point of view: what can be done
and what can not be done with respect to how open access
is implemented in practice? (I write this part against the
background of being a computer scientist myself).
- The perspective of bibliometrics and the use of impact
factors for articles and for entire journals. This is a
large topic in itself, but it is intertwined in complex
ways with the topic of open access. [This section is
forthcoming but not yet ready].
This webiste is produced and maintained in order to support the
activities of
OpenAccess.se,
the development program for open access that is
organized by the National Library of Sweden. I hope, however,
that the contents of the site will also be of use for
open-access activities in Swedish universities and otherwise.
It is recommended to set the web browser to use "medium-small"
presentation of text when reading the pages posted here.
