Hi,
I just want to inform you about my coming thesis defense. The
presentation is on Friday the 18th of October at 13.15, in Belöningen
(John von Neumann). It is a 20p project.
Title
Simulator for Resource Allocation in Future Mobile Networks
Abstract
Resource allocation in mobile networks can be done with bandwidth as the
limiting resource, but also other types of resources could be used, for
example interference or CPU load. This thesis aims to develop a simulator
for evaluating resource allocation algorithms in mobile networks. After
doing a limited study of free network simulation environments, JavaSim is
proposed as the base for the simulator. On top of this, the nodes of the
mobile network are modelled and implemented. Traffic models defined in
earlier work on mobile networks are used to generate traffic in the
network.
Two different resource allocation algorithms are implemented and plugged
into the simulator. One of them, the Rate-Based Borrowing Scheme has
previously known characteristics and results from simulations have been
compared to these. The results are similar to those published by the
original authors, but the offered load in the system, and hence bandwidth
utilisation, is significantly lower than the original.
Scalability, in terms of execution time and memory consumption, is linear
as the size of the simulated scenario grows larger. With some modification
the simulator can do resource allocation based on resources other than
bandwidth, for example CPU load.
