Statistics and Data Mining

(2 years, 120 credits)

 

A programme with unique career opportunities

The rapid growth of databases provides business people and scientists with vast new resources. Economic transactions, customer data, individual health records and environmental data are just a few examples of the contents of enormous databases awaiting thorough examination. The methods to organize and analyze all these data are getting more and more powerful, and the synergy between data mining and statistics can be immensely rewarding.

Who can apply?

You can apply for the programme if you have a bachelor's degree with at least 1.5 years of full time studies in statistics, computer science or applied mathematics. If you will soon get your B.Sc., please contact the programme director.

Where and when to apply?

Applications shall be made through www.studera.nu in English The on-line application service for programmes starting in August 2010 opens on December 1, 2009. The deadline is January 15, 2010. More information about Master's studies at LiU.

Content

The curriculum joins courses in statistics, computer science, and applied mathematics. Data mining, statistical learning and machine learning are some of the key topics,  During the first semester, supporting courses can be taken to ensure that the student is prepared for the more advanced courses in the programme. Profile courses and a 30-credit master's thesis ensure progression and depth.
